Saber Twin Air Compressor: My Go-To for Keeping the Tyres Happy

I've been running the Saber twin air compressor for a while now, and I've got to say, it's become a bit of a staple in my setup. I've got the portable unit that I use a lot, but I've also got a hard-mounted one in my 200 series Land Cruiser. I've used these on countless trips, and they've always delivered. So, in this post, I'm going to give you a few reasons why I think the Saber compressor is worth considering.

What Makes it Stand Out?

Let's dive into some of the features that make the Saber twin air compressor a top contender.

1. 100% Duty Cycle

This is a massive one. The Saber has a 100% duty cycle at 75 PSI. What does that mean for us? It means this bad boy can run continuously without overheating. Considering we're usually only airing up our tyres to around 40 or 50 PSI, this gives you a huge buffer.

I saw this first hand on a recent trip to Fraser Island. I had my 200 series, and the tyres were down to about 25 PSI in the rear and 18 PSI in the front. I aired them up to 50 in the rear and 40 in the front. Then, I went over to the 105 series Landcruiser and took all four of its tyres from 18 PSI up to 38 PSI. The compressor didn't even break a sweat. It just kept on doing the job perfectly.

2. Smart Heat Management

When you're compressing air, you generate heat in two places: in the electrical motors and in the air compressor itself. The Compressor is designed to manage this heat effectively. The electrical motors have aluminium cooling fins on the outside, and there's also an electrical fan that draws cool air across all the hot components. This keeps the compressor nice and cool, no matter how hard you're working it.

3. High-Level Specs

Let's talk numbers. The Saber flows at a healthy 135 litres per minute. If you're airing up a 265/70/17 tyre from zero to 40 PSI, you're looking at about two minutes and 15 seconds. The current draw is around 50 amps, but that can vary depending on the voltage and load.

The unit also comes with a robust airline and an air chuck, so you're ready to start airing up your tyres straight out of the box.

Portable vs. Hard-Wired

My job often sees me jumping from one vehicle to another, and many of the new vehicles I work with don't have an air compressor fitted. This is where the portable Saber unit really shines for me. Today, I might be using it with the 105 series, and tomorrow, I could be filming with a brand new vehicle and need it for that.

But even if you're an occasional four-wheel driver, the portable unit is a fantastic solution. It comes in a fully sealed, hard case, ready to go. You don't have to worry about the hassle and complexity of a hard-wired installation in your rig.

A Compressor Worth Considering

If you're in the market for an excellent air compressor solution for your four-wheel driving or outdoor adventures, give the Saber twin air compressor some serious consideration. It's tough, efficient, and gets the job done. Plus, it comes with a three-year warranty. How good is that?

I'm MadMatt. Stay safe on the trails.
